Kajuru crisis: Christians, Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Fitr together despite killings

Despite incessant killings that led to the loss of lives and property in Adara chiefdom in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna state, Christians and Muslims in the area celebrated Eid-el-fitr together in the spirit of love, forgiveness and reconciliation.

The Adara people have of recent witnessed incessant killings by unknown gunmen resulting to the loss of lives and destruction of properties of unimaginable magnitude.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman, Peace and Reconciliation Committee in the area, Mr. Patrick Maigari said the coming together of both Christians and Muslims in the area was to strengthen their bonds of love and unity that unite them since time immemorial.

Mr. Patrick Maigari, a former House of Assembly member, Chairman of Kajuru local government area and former commissioner of health in the state said, “The event is part of activities to ensure peace and mutual understanding amongst ourselves and forge ahead as a people irrespective of any difference.”

Maigari congratulated the Muslims on the Eid-el-Fitr celebration and appealed to all ethnic and religious groups to support the committee in the actualization of peace and unity that eluded the people some times.

Muslims and Christians have held special Sallah celebrations to strengthen bonds and relationships in crisis-prone Kajuru local government area of Kaduna state.



He urged the people to submit all perceived wrongfull acts and complaints to the committee, stressing that it was the only way there would be better understanding with a view to attending to complaints.

Also speaking, a Social Democratic Party, SDP, governorship candidate in the 2019 election, Alhaji Haruna Saeed Kajuru, expressed sadness over crisis in the area, stressing that it has tarnished the image of the area.

He advised the Peace and Reconciliation Committee to maintain the tempo and look for ways that would immediately resolve the lingering problems and bring lasting peace to the Kajuru people.

In his remarks, the Emir of Kajuru, Alhaji Alhassan Adamu, commended organizers of the event and asked the people to return to their farms without fear of anything but enjoined the people to work together as a family and report any suspicious movement to the constituted authority.

Representatives of Jamatu Nasiru Islam, Christian Association of Nigeria, Hausa and Fulani and the Adara Community Development Associations commended the state authority for the release of elders detained as a result of the crisis.

Senator Shehu Sani Slams Kaduna Government of Covering Mass Killings In The State
Shehu Sani, the senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district in the National Assembly has raised the alarm over killings and kidnappings in the state.
Sani accused the Kaduna state government of concealing massive killing of citizens in the state, adding that the state is unsafe as Benue and Taraba which are currently being controlled by herdsmen.
According to him, poor residents of the state bury their loved ones daily and pay heavy ransom to herdsmen.
The lawmaker disclosed this in a series of tweets on his Twitter page.
He wrote, “Kaduna state is as unsafe as Benue, Zamfara and Taraba states. Birnin Gwari bothering Zamfara and Niger state is controlled by heavily armed bandits or herdsmen who are killing both soldiers and civilians.
“Kidnaping & killing are a daily occurrence. Anything short of this is a lie.
“The mass killings & kidnappings going on in parts of Kaduna state are systematically suppressed in order not to embarrass the state and the federal government.
“Poor people keep burying their dead with tears & others paying heavy ransom to herdsmen. The victims are expected to praise government for ‘trying’.”

The Police Command in Kaduna State on Monday said its officers have arrested no fewer than 23 persons in connection with the alleged killing of a member of “Sara Suka’’, a street gang in the state.
ASP Muhktar Aliyu, the Police Public Relations Officer in the command, told reporters in Kaduna that the arrest occurred on Sunday at about 6:30 p.m. in Kawo area of Kaduna.
“What happened was that a member of the street gang, Ibrahim Ashiru, 27, lost his life when he allegedly claimed to have renounced his membership of the gang.
“So, for that, some members of the gangs from different groups allegedly attacked him, stabbed him and ran away.
“He was taken to hospital and later died because of the injuries he sustained,’’ he said.
Aliyu said after Ashiru was taken to cemetery for burial, another group went out for reprisal.
“They went to the houses of those that they suspected had hands in his death, burnt two houses and a bakery,’’ he said.
He said that with the prompt intervention of the police, 23 suspects were arrested and investigation was in progress on their activities.
“The command under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Austin Iwar will not allow any group of criminals to take law into their hands,’’ he warned.

3 Miners Shot Dead, Many Injured In Kaduna Mining Site Clash
 
About three persons have been reported killed following a clash at a mining site in Bakin Kogi village of Kaninkon Chiefdom in Jema’a local government area of Kaduna State.
Alhaji Yusuf Usman, the administrator of the local government area, who confirmed the incident, said the three persons lost their lives during a shootout between illegal miners.
He explained that during the scuffle, four other persons sustained injuries and were receiving treatment at the Patrick Yakowa Memorial General hospital, Kafanchan.
He said security personnel had been deployed to the area to ensure the sustenance of law and order in the area.
He urged people to go about their normal businesses and report any suspicious persons to the appropriate authority.

Troops of Mobile Strike Team II deployed in Kaduna have arrested a notorious gun runner in Rigachikun area of the state.
The troops during the operation at suspected armed bandits’ hideout recovered two AK 47 assault rifles with 38 rounds of 7.62mm special.
“Due to criminal activities taking place at the Rigachikun forest and its environs, the Army placed high surveillance in the general area to deny criminal freedom or operations.
“The success recorded so far were proactive measures taken by the Army to dominate the general area and fish out criminals that are carrying out kidnappings, armed robberies and cattle rustlings,” Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, Director Army Public Relations said in a statement.

Atiku Condemns Kaduna Killings, Tells Buhari To Take Actions

Former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the crisis in Kaduna State.

Atiku, writing on his Twitter page, called for the arrest and prosecution of “criminal elements” causing trouble in communities.
“The crisis in Kaduna is condemnable. But prompt arrest and diligent prosecution of criminal elements fomenting trouble in our communities will give confidence to Nigerians and discourage those who may want to thread the path of criminality,” he tweeted.
The Kaduna State Police Command on Monday, said it had arrested 10 suspects over Kasuwan Magani mayhem in Kajuru Local Government Area in Kaduna State.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhktar Aliyu, disclosed that seven people were killed and 15 injured during the crisis.
Aliyu added that normalcy had returned in the area.
According to him, the command received a distress call in the morning hours of February 26 that there was tension in the area.
