Living in Nigeria for 40 years & keeping your sanity is hard - Foluke Daramola

Living in Nigeria for 40 years & keeping your sanity is hard - Foluke Daramola
Foluke Daramola- Salako

Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola- Salako, who just celebrated her 40th year birthday has opened up about living in the country for 40 years. according to her, one of her greatest challenges in Nigeria is keeping her sanity intact.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, the actress noted that keeping one’s sanity in this country is a kind of herculean task and only the strong can stay intact.
“The turbulent thing I have faced especially in a place like Nigeria is that we are practically under pressure as celebrities. People keep demanding things from us and they don’t care how we meet their demands. They put a lot of pressure on me. Being psychologically and emotionally stable in Nigeria for over 40 years has not been an easy task.
People see the glamour on the television screen and believe that is how we live in reality. Being psychologically stable despite all odds like living up to expectation, the pressure of living the way you want to and also even differentiating reality from showbiz has not been easy. Those are my turbulent times. A good thing about being a celebrity, however, is that when you are known, you are celebrated and it opens doors for you. Being known gives you a voice when others are struggling to get a voice.” She said

Benue Killings: Tiv Leaders Blast Army For Providing Cover To The Armed Herdsmen

Benue Killings: Tiv Leaders Blast Army For Providing Cover To The Armed Herdsmen

File Photo
Leaders of the Tiv nation on Thursday accused the army of allegedly providing cover for armed herdsmen to take over the land naturally given to them by God.
They also expressed displeasure over the operation of a military exercise code-named “Cat Race” launched in the state by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to restore peace in Benue State communities following attacks by armed Fulani herdsmen.
President of the Mzough U Tiv (MUT), Chief Edward Ujege, in a statement issued to the media in Makurdi, expressed reservations over the emerging trends of the military operation which he said has made the people be apprehensive about the real mission of troops deployed to the state.
Chief Ujege disclosed that since the flag off of the exercise, the military has been circulating pamphlets through its Department of Civil-Military Affairs, Army Headquarters which “confirmed that the military had come to provide cover for armed Fulani herdsmen to take over the land of the people.”
The translation on the pamphlets, Chief Ujege emphasized, portrayed a purported dialogue between the Fulani herdsmen and Benue farmers on their alleged resolution to shift grounds on both farming and cattle grazing activities in the state.
Part of the translation of the pamphlets reads:
Tiv farmer: I’m your brother and a farmer; my farm produce is just as important as your cattle.
Fulani herder: I will no longer destroy your farm produce and longer kill your people. You are my brother, we should live in peace.
Tiv farmer: I too will no longer rustle or kill your cattle. You are my brother, let us live in peace.
Ujege said it was clear from the flyer that the military has acknowledged that the Fulani herdsmen are responsible for the large-scale massacre and massive destruction in of farm crops in the state.
He regretted that instead of addressing issues of justice, reparation and compensation, the federal government is compelling people of the state to accommodate the perpetrators of the heinous atrocities.
“Moreover, there is no reference to the Open Grazing Prohibition and Establishment of Ranches Law 2017, which addresses the fundamental issues of making both the farmers and the herders coexist in peace. The military is not only silent on the law but has encouraged open grazing with all its concomitant consequences. This silence on the law points to the fact that they are not in its support and are not ready to ensure its enforcement”.
But the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 707 Special Forces Brigade, Major Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, in a swift reaction, countered the position of the Tiv leader saying “Operation Cat-race is not in support of any group”.
The Army spokesman, Major Ayeni said the role of the army in the crisis is to ensure the return of enduring peace in sacked communities and safe return of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.
“All that the army needs to do here is to ensure that no Benue resident is killed or displaced from their homes, that is all we are doing. We want to ensure peaceful coexistence among the herders and farmers. We are not saying the Fulani herdsmen should not obey the anti-open grazing law enacted by the Benue State government.
“Let me inform you that we had arrested a Fulani herdsman yesterday and two others that wanted to attack Governor Ortom’s farm in Guma and with all these successes you should know that Operation Ayem A Kpatuma is not in support of any group and is not in the pursuit or criticising any group.”
“Our role is to make sure that Benue State is peaceful and one of the ways we are going about it is for the herders to know that either a Tiv man or an Idoma man or Igede man is a Nigerian like him and a herder who is not violent now is their brother.
“However in the course of the military exercise if we find a violent herdsman that want to kill or displace any person in Benue State, we get him arrested and that is why we arrested two people two weeks ago, and arrested another one for preventing the Tiv people from been peaceful in their own environment.
“So the way and manner we go in achieving a peaceful environment in Benue State especially in Guma and Logo local government areas of the state and Katsina-Ala local government is by using this psychological method to test these people that we are friends, don’t fight or pursue the other because we are one family. But however, if you saw anyone who want to kill you, report and we will get that person arrested and deal with him according to the law”, said Major Ayeni.

My life in sex: ‘He turned me on more than any three-dimensional man had’

My life in sex: ‘He turned me on more than any three-dimensional man had’

It’s exciting and unpredictable and we care about each other.’ Illustration: Lo Cole

The woman exploring dominance and submission in an online-only relationship
It’s 11 years since I started a sexual relationship with a man I’ve never met. When we connected on MySpace, he lived in the north, and I was down south. The attraction was immediate. He is dominant; I have submissive tendencies.
The first time we had phone sex was surreal. He turned me on more than any three-dimensional man had. He encouraged me to explore my submissive side, creating scenarios about what he would do with me if he were there. He’d give me instructions to carry out and I had to report back to him or face “punishment”. After a couple of months, I had him checked out by a private investigator. I didn’t want to be in touch with a fraud, a married man or a liar. The detective agency assured me he was none of those things. We have talked about meeting. But his job takes him abroad for extended periods and, for various reasons, I couldn’t go with him.
We’ve both had “proper” relationships in the last decade and when we do, we cease contact. We respect each other’s needs for physical intimacy. But we always end up returning to each other.
Of course I don’t get the adventures, or the cosy nights snuggled on the sofa. But having had that with previous partners and been unfulfilled sexually, for now I prefer this. We exchange photos and I send him videos (but not rude ones). And we still have the hottest sex. It’s exciting and unpredictable and we care about each other.
Most people in my life know about him, but not the sexual aspect, and the few people I have told about that don’t get it. But we love what we do.

A South Sudan court on Friday sentenced a South African ex-colonel to be executed by hanging, a Reuters witness said, after he was convicted of conspiracy and attempting to overthrow the government.

Rtd Col. William Endley, 55, had been providing advice to former-vice-president-turned-rebel-leader Riek Machar, whose forces have been fighting a civil war since 2013.
NAN reports that on Feb. 15, the court said no defence witnesses appeared to testify in the trial of Endley.

“The defence case is closed and the final judgment will be given on the 23rd of this month”, presiding judge Ladu Sekwat said during the hearing.

Endley’s lawyer Gardit Gar told Reuters that six witnesses had been served with a notification to testify, including a government minister.
In addition to charges of conspiracy and the supply of weapons, Endley, was accused of espionage, waging an insurgency, sabotage, terrorism and illegal entry into South Sudan.
He was charged alongside James Dak, a former spokesman for Machar, who was also handed the death sentence for incitement and conspiracy against Kiir’s government.
South Sudan, which won independence from Sudan in 2011, descended into civil war in 2013, months after Kiir fired his then deputy Machar.
Tens of thousands of people have been killed and a third of the population have fled their homes.
Machar, who fled to Democratic Republic of Congo after fierce fighting broke out in Juba in July 2016, is now in South Africa under virtual house arrest.
Talks on a new power-sharing arrangement and an election are taking place in the Ethiopian capital but clashes have continued despite the signing of a ceasefire in December.

The ceasefire agreement was intended to revive a 2015 peace deal, which lasted less than a year before collapsing.
