By Mercy JacobFormer Nigerian international, Taiwo Oloyede, has advised the Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, to search for quality strikers if he wants to qualify Nigeria for the 2014 World Cup.
According to Oloyede, what happened at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil has exposed Eagles’ weakness. He, therefore, called on Keshi to make haste and correct the mistakes.
He further demanded that opportunity should only be given to Osaze Odemwinge to come and play for the national team when he had shown remorse for his offences. He said that the player should tender a public apology to Nigerians before he would be allowed to play for Eagles again.
He said that Osaze should do that to ensure discipline in the team, even as it would serve as a deterrant to other players who would want to toe the same part.
“We have problem in the Eagles’ attack,” Oloyede began. “Keshi should scout for quality strikers, before our World Cup qualifying match against Malawi to avoid repeating what happened in Brazil.
“He may give Osaze another chance to play for the team, but that would be after he (Osaze) has tendered a public apology to Nigerians.
“I have no personal issues with Osaze, he is a good player no doubt. But I think that he should apologise to Nigerians in order to ensure discipline in the team. His case is no longer a matter between him and the coach alone, but he has offended the nation. So, he needs to tell Nigerians that he is sorry for all his actions.
“Keshi should as well consider calling back players like Victor Anichebe if they are still interested in playing for Nigeria. He should look for those of them that are still willing to don the green and white jersey and invite them to solidify the team.
“We have to play our next match against Malawi with caution. We must ensure that every mistake discovered in Brazil is corrected to avoid what happened to us against Angola in our road to Germany 2006 World Cup from repeating itself. If we can go to Kenya and pick a win and get a draw in Namibia, we should use all our arsenals to play against Malawi.
“Keshi and his team should not look at the match as a workover because Malawi could pose a threat to our World Cup dream,” Oloyede advised.
