Boston police officers didn't even break a sweat tracking down a robber this week after the hapless criminal left them every possible clue short of his home address.
Zachary Tentoni, 26, of Southington, Connecticut, was arrested Monday for allegedly snatching a wallet from a woman in Dorchester, Massachusetts, while leaving his own birth certificate and a letter from his mother in the process.
The robbery victim told police that she had exited the Field Corner T station and was making her way through the Harbor Middle School yard just before midnight when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her wallet.
The woman's clutch contained her ID card, $40 in cash and a reusable public transit ticket known as Charlie Card, Southington Patch reported.
While fleeing from the scene, the clumsy mugger dropped two bags in which he was carrying his belongings, including clothing, hygiene products and a pair of sneakers.
More importantly, however, one of the bags turned out to contain his birth certificate, identifying him as Zachary Tentoni, born in 1987, and a note sent to him by his mother, according to police.
Armed with the suspect's name and his description furnished by the victim, police were able to quickly collar Tentoni, according to ABC News.
At around 1.35am, officers on patrol spotted a man matching the suspect’s description just a block away from the crime scene and apprehended him.
When officers asked the suspect for his name, Tentoni gave them an alias, calling himself John Foisy from Connecticut, born in 1993.
However, the mugged woman was able to positively identify him as her attacker.
Tentoni was arraigned Wednesday on a single count of unarmed robbery and booked into a local jail on $500 bail.
This was not Tentoni’s first run-in with the law. Records show that he was convicted of larceny in April, and has several cases pending against him involving charges of criminal mischief, driving with a suspended license and a separate count of larceny. e larceny and illegally operating a motor vehicle under a suspended license stemming from a June 10 incident.
