A’Ibom LG boss' property May Go As Bank Threatened to Take Possession of it

Access Bank Plc, Eket branch in Akwa Ibom State, has threatened to take possession of the property of the chairman, Eket Local Government, Mr. Aniekan Akpan, over his alleged N10m indebtedness to the bank.
Speaking with newsmen in Eket on Friday, counsel for the bank, Mr. Ben Ndedde, said Akpan had on December, 2008, obtained a loan of N4.5m from Eket branch of the bank.
Ndedde explained that the bank granted the loan to Akpan through the latter’s company, Trading as Fast Service Nigeria Enterprise, before he assumed office as chairman of Eket LGA.
He stated that Akpan had defaulted in repayment of the loan, a development that made interest on the loan to accumulate.
Ndedde declared that with the interest on the facility, the loan rose to N10m
He said, “We have judgment against Trading as Fast Service Nigeria Enterprise; it is an enterprise owned by the present chairman of Eket Local Government.
“Before going to court, the bank has been writing and bringing to his attention that he owes Access Bank and that he should pay the money to avert legal action.”
Akpan, however, said he was not indebted to the bank. He stated that it was the handiwork of his detractors to malign his integrity.
He said, “I do not owe Access Bank. I know the entire plot is the handiwork of my enemies to malign my well-earned integrity.”
