MADRID (AFP) – Departing Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has thanked
the club’s fans for their support during his three years in charge of
the Spanish giants.
Mourinho, who will leave Real at the end of the season, will oversee his final match later on Saturday when Madrid host Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“I wish all the fans much happiness in the future. I thank the support of the many fans and respect the criticism of others. I repeat: much joy for everyone and especially good health to all. Go Madrid!” read a statement from the Portuguese coach on the club’s website.
Mourinho, 50, has been strongly linked with a return to Chelsea – a team he managed between 2004 and 2007 .
After a Copa del Rey triumph in his first season followed by a La Liga title last year, Mourinho has endured a torrid final season in charge of Los Blancos, culminating in defeat to city rivals Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey final that ensured Real would end the campaign without a major trophy.
