FESTAC
Town, Lagos got the honour of hosting an array of music stars on
Saturday, as the 2013 edition of Star Music Trek began. With a multitude
of crowd flocking the Jite Open Field, venue of the event, it kind of
reunited gladiators in the entertainment industry with the satellite
town.
Contemporary musical giants such as
P-Square, M.I, Ice Prince, Sound Sultan, KCee and Kas performed live at
the event. Not even the rain that fell on the day could separate the
music lovers from different parts of Lagos and beyond from the tested
artistes.
Ebullient comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka,
has, for long, maintained rhythm with the organisers of the concert –
Nigerian Breweries Plc. It is thus not surprising that he was the anchor
of the Festac feast, where he set the crowd reeling as he dished out
jokes and cracks from his rich repertory. His way of bullying local
talents onto the stage, where they also showcased their talents, also
added pep to the deal.
But all that only prepared ground for
the stars who, one after the other, dished out popular songs from their
collection of hits, reaching out to the crowd who swelled the ranks in
appreciation of the stage craft and mastery of the entertainers.
In a way, M.I. knows how to introduce
‘politics’ into his performances. Often when children and youths form
the largest chunk of his audience, he creates a motivational interlude
during which he pays tributes to them and gives them words of
encouragement about life.
He did same on Saturday and charged the young ‘never to give up on their dreams’.
He humorously recalled how he migrated
from Jos to Lagos, in a sea of uncertainty, but armed with a talent that
he was prepared to hone. Now, having hit stardom with an opulent bang,
the MTV award-winner did not hesitate to say at Festac, “No matter what
happens, you need to believe in yourself. Don’t ever let anyone take
your dreams from you.”
