Most people wait for police or a judge to declare that they are a danger to society, but a drunken driver from western New York decided to cut out the middleman and blow the whistle on himself.

Police say 33-year-old Patrick Kelly, of Lockport, was driving on a rural road in the neighboring town of Cambria Wednesday night when he called 911 to report that he was too drunk to operate a vehicle and did not want to hurt anyone.
Deputies quickly caught up with Kelly and arrested him on a DUI charge after he failed a field sobriety test.

The bizarre incident happened at around 11pm when a 911 dispatcher got a call from a man saying that he was intoxicated and could not drive any further.
A Niagara Country Sheriff's deputy responded to the report and found Patrick Kelly's car parked on the eastbound shoulder of Lockport Junction Road.
According to the arrest report, the 33-year-old motorist told the officer that he stopped the car out of fear of hurting someone because he was too drunk.
Mr Kelly reportedly said that he had about eight beers at an Amherst bar and then paid his girlfriend a visit before setting out for home.

A field sobriety test showed that Kelly's blood-alcohol level clocked in at .15, or nearly twice the legal limit.
The truth-telling 33-year-old suspect was booked into Niagara County Jail on $250 bail.

Can it happen in our country?
