The
resurgence of terrorist attacks especially the recent multiple bomb
explosions in Kano State which left over 20 persons dead, is an
indication that the war against terror is not over, says Inspector
General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar.
Mr. Mohammed made this known yesterday when he met with all the Assistant Inspectors General (AIG) in Abuja over the rising spate of insecurity in the country.
The IG called on the police top brass to focus more attention to the incidences of rising crime waves across the country stressing that daily situation reports bear sad testimonies to this negative trend.
“In spite of the emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, the insurgents still inflict untold hardships to peace loving and innocent residents of these states. The explosion in Sabon-Gari area of Kano metropolis on July 29 is another painful reminder that the war against terrorism is not yet over,” Abubakar noted.
The police chief decried the rising cases of kidnapping and other
violent crimes in some parts of the country saying they must be stamped
out.
Said he, “In the South-South and South-East zones, armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes such as murder, assassination and political upheavals seem to be the order of the day; hardly any passes without tales of woes of residents robbed, kidnapped or assassination of political rivals.
“The trauma and pains of these experiences linger for so long. I therefore charge you to sit up and tackle these menaces and ensure that the ordinary citizens get reprieve from all those hell-bent on inflicting anguish and pains on them”, Mr. Mohammed added.
