One of Nigeria’s gold medalists at the 2012 London Olympic Games in the powerlifting category, Joy Onaolapo, has passed on.
The head coach of the Nigeria Power Lifting Federation (NPLF), Are Fayisetan, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday that the federation got to know about Onaolapo’s death on the 26th of July.
Onaolapo, who won gold in the 52kg powerlifting, reportedly died in
his home state Edo and plans to contact his family through the state
sports council are presently ongoing.
“What we know so far is that Onaolapo, married with two children, died last week in her home state, Edo,” Feyisetan disclosed.
Head coach, Feyisetan, further stated that the course of the athlete’s death is yet to be ascertained.
